NTPC Kawas received the first prize in the Thermal Power Stations Sector category in the National Energy Conservation Award -2012 on 14th December, 2012. The Award was received by Shri Shankar Das, General Manager, Kawas from President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee at a function held in Vigyan Bhawan. Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister of State for Power (Independent charge) was also present on the occasion.

NTPC has been given the top honor for climate change initiatives by its Centre forPower Efficiency & Environmental Protection (CenPEEP) at the Times of India Earth Care Award 2012 in NewDelhi. The award was received by Shri N.N. Misra, Director (Operations) and Shri Pankaj Bhartiya, General Manager,CenPEEP NTPC Limited from Shri Smt. Jayanti Natrajan, Union Minister of Environment and Forest.
Earth Care Awards recognises innovators and crosses borders to felicitate outstanding green warriors from SAARC Nations— Afghanistan,Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India.
On receiving the award Shri N.N. Misra, Director (operations) NTPC said that the award motivates us to further our green initiatives with thrust on low cost and sustainable technology as the top power generator of the country.
CenPEEP is a symbol ofNTPC’s pro-active approach towards environmental protection. The Centre was establishedin collaboration with USAID to address climate change issues. CenPEEP hasdemonstrated technologies and practices aimed at efficiency improvement andGHG reduction from power sector. NTPC has also done exemplary work onenvironmental protection and CSR.
The award has been adjudged by eminent jury comprising of Mr. M.S Swaminathan, Chairman, M S Swami NathanResearch Foundation and eminent persons from organizations like InternationalCrops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics; Centre for EnvironmentEducation; Nehru Science Centre, National Council of Science Museums; Centrefor Development Studies and Activities; Indasia Fund Advisors Private Limited; Ms.Shailaja Chandra, IAS (retd); UNEP and Mckinsey & Company
During the evaluation process, thejury team also visited NTPC Ramagundam power station for field assessment andverification of systems and practices being implemented.
Earth Care Awards 2012 is aleadership initiative which recognizes excellence of efforts made to reduceemissions and adapt to inevitable climate change. The Center for EnvironmentEducation (CEE) & Technology, Education, Research and Rehabilitation for theEnvironment (TERRE) are the Knowledge Partners and The Outreach Partner for the awards.

Green Globe Foundation is partnered by knowledge partners TERI and Wizcraft International Entertainment. Award ceremony took place on 2nd February, 2011 at the Taj Palace in New Delhi.
NTPC’s Dadri Project has been conferred with the Green Globe Foundation Award in the Public Sector category with the aim of honouring the efforts of corporate, NGOs and individuals striving for an environment friendly India.
The decision of the jury was based on innovation, social impact, cost implications and the sustainability of the action involved. The other companies awarded in PSU category are Gujarat Green Revolution Centre and Coal India.
