    Sixth Research Advisory Council (RAC) Meeting of NTPC Energy Technology Research Alliance (NETRA) was chaired by Padma Shri & Padma Bhushan Dr.V.K.Saraswat, Member NITI Ayog. The Advisory council deliberated on R&D activities of NETRA, and development of technologies with on focus Efficiency and Availability Improvement, New and Renewable Energy, Climate Change and Environment, Advanced Scientific services to the NTPC and other power stations in India. In his address Dr. Saraswat advised use of various technologies to ensure, sustainability and long term energy security of India.

    The advisory council is represented by eminent scientists and professionals, Dr. Padam Shri Baldev Raj, Shri S.C.Chetal, Dr. H. Saha, Dr. N.K. Bansal, Shri A.K.Jha(Director Technical), Shri K.K. Sharma, Director (Operation), Shri R.K. Srivastava(ED-NETRA) and Shri S. Bandyopadhyaya , GM(CENPEEP).

    Five Stations of NTPC received the National Awards for Meritorious Performance in Power Sector for the year 2013-14. Dadri Gas(840 MW) received the Silver Award, Korba(2600 MW) and Ramagundam(2600 MW) received the Bronze Award, Vindhyachal(4260 MW) and Anta (419 MW) received the Certificate of Merit.

    These awards for efficiency and performance in the sector were presented by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Power, Coal and New & Renewable Energy at a function held in New Delhi today.

    Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble President of India presented the National Awards-2014 to NTPC Kawas employee Smt. Urvashi B. Garala, Junior Officer (Finance) for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities on the occasion of International Day of Disabled Persons in New Delhi on 3rd Dec.2014. On this occasion, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot, the Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Vijay Sampla and the Minister of State for Social Justice & Empowerment, Shri Krishan Pal were also present. ​

    Shri A.K. Jha , Director ( Technical ) NTPC has been awarded as “Power Persona of the Year – Power Generation” at the 8th Enertia Awards- 2014 held in New Delhi. Shri Jha has been awarded for his contribution in enhancing NTPC’s technical expertise in Thermal Power and expanding its width to Solar Domain where NTPC has emerged as a PSE Leader.The citation given on the occasion appreciates Shri Jha's 35-years of rich and varied experience in Power Sector in the areas of Erection and Commissioning, Project Planning & Monitoring, Project Management and his stint as Regional ED-Northern Region.

    Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC has been awarded as Management Persona of the Decade - Energy & Power at the 8th Enertia Awards 2014 on 27th November, 2014 held in New Delhi. The award has been given to him for his contribution to the energy & power sector.

    The citation presented on the occasion says " During your tenure as CMD, NTPC saw its best period of Enterprise Management & Performance delivery as PSE- providing the company unprecedented & unparalleled National & Global recognition."

    Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury , CMD NTPC received the Best CEO Award - Public Sector from Forbes at Forbes India Leadership Award (FILA) function2014 held in Mumbai. The jury for the award comprised eminent Business Leaders, Shri KV Kamath, Non Executive Chairman ICICI Bank as jury Chairman, Ms. Zia Mody, Founder AZB& Partners, Shri Akhil Gupta, Non Executive Chairman , blackstone India, Shri Ajit Rangnekar, Dean, Indian School of Business, Sanjay Nair, CEO KKR India and Shri Raghav Behl, Founder, Network 18.

    FILA recognizes leaders in public sector, private sector and among multinational companies operating in India. The nominees for the awards comprised a robust and diverse list of nominees vetted by the knowledge partners KPMG.

    Shri Kiran Kothekar, founder-director of Vector Consulting, Sourav Majumdar, Executive Editor of Forbes India and Anil Uniyal, CEO, Forbes India presented the Award.

    Mahipal Singh Mourya, Jr. Engr., Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Project has been conferred the Prime Minister’s Shram Shree Award for the year 2013. This is the only award received by NTPC in this years’ PM Shram Awards. Mahipal Singh shall receive a cash award of Rs. 40,000/- and a citation from the Prime Minister.

    CMD Felicitated by India Energy Forum

    Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury , CMD , NTPC was felicitated in Urja Vichar Manch Program organized under the aegis of India Energy Forum for his outstanding contribution to the sector, as leader of the top most power generation company in the country today in New Delhi. The program was attended by luminaries of the sector comprising Shri P.S. Bami, Shri Anil Razdan, Shri RV Shahi, Shri A.K.Sah, Shri C.P. Jain, Shri B. Bhambhani and others. The speakers lauded the role of NTPC which has maintained its position as a performing organization in the areas of both power generation and capacity addition since its inception and continues to do so under the leadership of Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury despite challenges and recession from last few years. Dr. Roy Choudhury was also presented a memento on the occasion.

    Shri K Biswal, Director (Finance), NTPC has been awarded CMA-CFO Award in the Public Sector (Manufacturing) category in recognition to the efforts made by him for application of innovative cost and management accounting techniques in work place.

    The award was given by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India during its 56th Foundation Day at New Delhi. Hon'ble Justice Supreme Court Shri Deepak Misra presented the award to Shri Biswal. Ms. J M Shanti Sundaram, IRS, Chairperson, CBEC, Ministry of Finance & Shri SC Mohanty, President ICAI were present.

    Shri Biswal became the Director (Finance) of Mahanadi Coal Fields Limited at a very young age of 49 years. As CFO of the company, he believes in becoming a ‘Value Creator’ who works as Strategic Business Partner with CEO. Following this principle, during his short tenure of 38 months in MCL, he strategically advocated the need for diversification beyond coal production and led the formation of Mahanadi Basin Power Limited for setting up a pit head Thermal Power Generation Plant and Neelanchal Power Transmission Company Ltd. into Transmission Business for gainful deployment of surplus fund and development of infrastructure in the State.

    S​h​ri Biswal has proven his leadership at personal, professional as well as business level. His rich and varied experience of 28 years in Corporate Finance Management particularly in Coal Sector as CFO MCL & Power Sector as CFO CERC, enabled him to take over the charge of Director (Finance), NTPC Limited, the Maharatna Company of Government of India.

    In NTPC also, within a period of 6 months of joining, he has been instrumental in resolving long pending disputes with Coal India Limited, achieving the ambitious capex target of NTPC by incurring capex of Rs.21,705 crore in FY 14, raising Tax Free Bonds amounting to Rs.2250 crore, raising Foreign currency Loans of USD 350 million and closing of Accounts of NTPC for FY 14 within tight scheduled timeline.

    Shri Biswal, with endearing inter personal skills, has grown to become a focused leader demonstrating unflinching determination to do whatever must be done to produce the best long-term results and inspiring his team for its contribution and taking responsibility for growth & improvement of the company.

    Shri T. Praveen Kumar, Asst Manager (HR) was declared as qualified "International Umpire" and was awarded with a degree by International Caroms Federation at the recently held World Carom Tournament- "Champion Of Champions" and "Junior Indo-Srilanka Test Series" held during 21-23, October, 2013, at Gurgaon, Haryana. Shri Praveen officiated as a national umpire during the tournaments.

    Xaverian Award to CMD

    Dr. Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC and Chairman DVC has been given Distinguished Xaverian Award by St. Xavier Alumni Association (SXAA) for his outstanding services and contribution to the Building Construction and Power sector at the Alumni Reunion of the Institution held in Patna on December 21st. Other distinguished Alumni of the prestigious institution awarded on the occasion were Shri D.K. Mehrotra former Chairman, LIC and Shri Arun Singh, Ambassador of India to France for their services in respective fields.

    Maj General Abhay Krishna and Shri Siddarth Chaudhary, Writer were also given significant Achievement Awards.

    Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC has been felicitated at the 27th Indian Engineer Congress held in Vigyan Bhawan ,New Delhi today as an Eminent Engineering Personality by Shri S.L. Garg, President , The Institution of Engineers India. Shri Roy Choudhury addressed the congress and lauded the role of engineers. He added that he is proud to be part of an engineering organization like NTPC which is has been a leader and has introduced various innovative benchmarks in the sector.

    CMD, NTPC has an illustrious career spanning over 32 years of outstanding contribution in the fields of engineering, general management, strategic management and business leadership. He is a Graduate in Civil Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra and a Post-Graduate in Management and Systems from IIT-Delhi.

    He has the distinction of becoming the youngest Chief Executive Officer of a Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) at the age of 44 years when he joined as Chairman & Managing Director, National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC) on April 03, 2001. Prior to that he had worked in prominent public and private sector companies.

    Shri Roy Choudhury’s rich and varied contribution has been recognized by prestigious professional, academic and Government institutions, both national and international.

    The program was attended by eminent engineers and noted dignitaries.

    The Institution of Engineering and Technology ( U.K.) Delhi Network honored Shri Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC with “Outstanding Engineers Award” in recognition of his unfailing commitment to Excellence in Project Management in New Delhi today. Dr. Mike Short President IET and VP of Public affairs, Telefonica Europe presented a citation, plaque and a medallion to Shri Roy Choudhury and his contribution as a leader in both private and public sector organizations through team excellence were lauded on the occasion.

    The award was presented on the occasion of IET (UK) Lord Austin Lecture 2012 on theme UK and European Rail Freight- Insight & Lessons for India delivered by Lord Tony Berkely, Chairman, Rail Freight Group and board Member, European Rail Freight Association. Shri Kul Bhushan , Member Electrical, Railway Board and Ex- Officio Secretary to Govt. of India, Ministry of Railways was also honored on the occasion.
